Septic dump/station and water fill are closed for the 2020 season. Relocation of services will begin in 2021 moving to the campground area along with showers.

The Royal Canadian Legion Ryley Branch #192, located in Ryley, across from the Beaver County Office, has been in existence since 1947. As a Service Club in the Village, The Legion was supported, in the many fund-raising and community efforts for fifty years by the Ladies Auxiliary. The Ladies Auxiliary turned in their charter in 2007, but their services and work will be remembered by many residents who attended their monthly suppers and other activities.

The Ryley Legion currently has thirty-five members and welcomes new members at any time. To become a member, an individual does not have to have been associated with the military, or have a parent or grandparent that was in the military. It is only required that anyone who wishes to join be sponsored by a current member of the Ryley Legion. Membership information may be obtained by contacting the Membership Chairperson, at 780-663-3565 at any time.

The Ryley Legion Hall is available for rent. The hall has a full kitchen and is suitable for meetings, small group functions and family get-togethers. Information on rentals may be obtained by contacting a Hall Committee Member at 780-663-3565 at any time.

The Ryley Legion meets on the first Tuesday of every month except in July and August. The Ryley Legion Executive, which attend all of the meetings, is comprised of Members who live in and around Ryley, as well as Vegreville.

The members of Ryley Legion support a number of events in the community. Each year the Poppy Committee works to raise funds by canvassing the businesses and placing poppy collection trays in businesses and public institutions from the last Friday in October until November 11 every year. The Legion, in conjunction with Ryley School Administration, plan and provide a Remembrance Day Service for the staff and students there. The Legion plans and holds Remembrance Day Services at The Legion Cenotaph, followed by a community service at the Ryley Community Center. A pot-luck dinner is held at the Legion Hall following the community service.

Ryley Legion Members and family members of veterans buried at the Ryley Cemetery attend a Grave Decorating Service on the Sunday of the Labor Day Weekend, each year. A short service is conducted and small Canadian flags and poppies are placed on the graves of veterans.

For many years, members of the Ryley Legion planned and took part in the Ryley Sports Day Parade. They continue to be part of this parade each year. The Ryley Legion is proud to be an important part of the Village of Ryley.

It was on March 6, 1974 that 21 members met in the Old Haight School and decided that they wanted to have a seniors club. So in 1975 they drew up a constitution and registered it with the Societies Branch. In January 1977, with 29 members present, a motion was made to purchase the Freebury Clinic building- the present location. These members worked hard to pay for this building because by December 14, 1977 the building was paid in full. They held the official opening on February 3, 1978.

The Club soon felt they needed more room, so an addition was started on July 11, 1983. This project was completed by September 7, 1983. This addition provided room to have a pool table, a dart board and floor and table shuffleboard.

The Club welcomes visitors and new members anytime, to join or stop in for a friendly cup of coffee. Any person 50 years of age or older is welcome to join. To become a member we have an annual fee of $10.00. Each Monday afternoon from 1:30 on, we play Crib. On Wednesday afternoon we start with 6 games of Bingo. Then you are free to play whatever you like- pool, shuffleboard, scrabble, dominoes, cards or just visit. There is always coffee, tea and lunch served.

On the first and third Thursday we play Euchre in the evening starting at 7 o’clock. On the first Friday of the month we have a Crib Tournament starting at 7 o’clock.

In the Spring in order to raise money we have a raffle, bake sale and lunch of beef on a bun. At Christmas time we enjoy a turkey meal catered to.

Ryley Museum Society Organized in 1986. Museum is housed in two former schools, Haight from north of Ryley and Palmer, south of Ryley. The museum is between the Community Centre and the Curling Rink. All three facilities share the paved parking lot. Beside the school buildings, we have a pole shed to house machinery. Included in this shed are a threshing machine, a binder, a seed drill, two fanning mills, a fresno, a cultivator and the 1941 Ryley fire truck as well as the Village steamer and a hay rack. Inside a chain link fence there is a old windmill and a old log cabin. The main building houses the Rebekkah Lodge articles, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary display, Dr. MacPherson’s doctor bag and picture of him at graduation, a large collection of dolls, artifacts used in the pioneer homes to furnish, cook, make butter, separate milk and to wash clothes. Numerous families had written their individual stories which are on display. There is a corner of a school display and many pictures and calendars from yester year.

We are in the need of new members and anyone who wishes to help with carpentry work or mylar encapsulating of pictures and other flat items please come.

Donations are always appreciated and new members are welcomed. Membership is $5.00 per person on a yearly basis.

Artifacts include: antique lamps, kitchen items, school pictures & items, doll & toy collection, clothing, furniture, & some big machinery from back in the day.

Good for one year from the time of purchase. You can use your membership for rentals on books, DVD’s and audio tapes. You can rent books from other libraries in Alberta once a week and have them sent to the McPherson Library. There are 3 computers for public use, no membership required. There are no longer fees for the usage of the ball diamonds. We do ask for a schedule for any team games and practices.
